Live nativity scene kicks off holiday season

LEATHERWOOD, Ky. (WYMT) - A live nativity scene kicked off the holiday season in the Leatherwood community of Perry County.

The scene at "Christmas on Leatherwood" was right out of the Bible.

People gathered to watch the story of Bethlehem at Saturday's reenactment.

It included Mary, Joseph and even the little drummer boy.

Hayrides through the barn were available after the show.

Organizers said the nativity displays the meaning of Christmas.

“As a church it's the main reason that we celebrate the holiday is Christ's birth, and I just think this is a good way to get the Christmas season started off by reminding people what Christmas is all about,” said volunteer Kristi Dixon.

Kids were even surprised by Santa Claus later that night.
