Local principal honored at the White House

HYDEN, Ky. (WYMT) - An eastern Kentucky educator is on his way back to the mountains from being honored at the White House.

Leslie County High School Principal Kevin Gay was honored for his role in building a culture of high expectations, improving instruction and many other achievements.

When Gay became the principal in the fall of 2010 the school was considered persistently low-achieving.

Since then they have made improvements on the state's transitional academic index.
