State officials say they hope federal funding will help a local organization.
The Community Foundation of Hazard and Perry County received a 75,000 dollar Appalachian Regional Commission grant today.
The CFHPC was founded three years ago and since then has established a mission to forward with community development.
Directors at the foundation have specific goals for this grant money.
The foundation wants to provide grants for local schools to support physical activity, outdoor classrooms, and experience education.
Executive Director Gerry Role says this is a short-term investment for a long-term gain.
Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo is a Hazard native and supports his roots.
"This is home. these are his people. They need help. And we need to provide them the assistance to do the things they need to do to improve themselves," said Bill Burger, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo.
CFHPC officials say they are extremely grateful for the grant and know it will benefit the future of their community.
