Winchester woman makes it to Hollywood on 'American Idol'

Posted: Wed 11:47 PM, Feb 08, 2012

Millions of people watched Wednesday night as a Winchester woman took the stage on 'American Idol.'

Lauren Mink, 25, beat out thousands of singers to make it to Hollywood. She calls her style "country rock," but Wednesday she sang "Alone" by Heart.

Because of show rules, she can't talk about how she did, and she says keeping the secret has been a challenge.

"Just random people around town will come up and put their arm around me and say 'congratulations!' And I'm like, on what? It was really hard to keep the secret, especially here in a small town, news travels very fast."

Mink works as the director of STRIDE, a Clark County program that helps people with disabilities.

She's also keeping busy, performing in concerts at different places around central Kentucky.
