LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - Construction...and renovation is well underway at 4550 Old Whitley Road.

"And it is something the board worked on for a year and a half to make sure it works out for all us," said Susan Hodges with the Laurel County Industrial Foundation.

General Dynamics Information Technology plans to fill up the building in south London with 1,000 workers.

"Our unemployment rate is 9.9%. That compares to a state of 8.1% so we are thrilled not just for London and Laurel County but for the surrounding area," said Hodges.

Most workers will be customer service representatives, answering health care questions. Pay will start at $12.50 an hour.

"But it goes all the way up to the HR department. Hope to have it running by September first of this year," said Hodges.

Employees will provide technical assistance in implementing the federal government's Health Insurance Marketplace.

"For any questions that have to do with Medicare, open enrollment is all done through this," said Hodges.

Those wanting to apply are encouraged to attend job fairs at the Laurel campus of Somerset community college on July 20th and 27th.

300 additional jobs are coming to a call center in Winchester.
