Although it has been two years since Dustin Napier walked through the halls of South Laurel High School, many remember the kind of student he was.

"He was very quiet, reserved, very modest but at the same time he was always willing to step up in leadership roles and serve when the school needed him to serve." says South Laurel High School Principal, David Cummins.

Most remember him walking through the halls in some sort of military uniform due to his involvement in the R-O-T-C.

Napier was actually a four year member of the R-O-T-C at South Laurel and his senior year he was the highest ranked cadet.

"He was the top person in the R-O-T-C as far as student cadet go, he was the top." Cummins adds.

Cummins says Napier knew he wanted to wear that uniform after he graduated high school so he joined the army.

"He had always dreamed of being a soldier and so that is what he accomplished in life."

And to thank him for his service to our country the school says they plan on honoring Napier, as well as another former South Laurel killed in the line of duty back in 2008, with a memorial.

"Those are just in the works and of course we will do those with the families." says Cummins.

A memorial allowing them to remember but never forget.
