HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - The Harlan Independent School System superintendent is retiring.
David Johnson is stepping down when his contract expires in June.
However, he will continue to work in education.
He told us he will be the Executive Director at the Southeast, South Central Educational Cooperative.
Johnson has worked in the school system for 30 years and spent 17 years as superintendent.
“I appreciate the opportunity the community has given me over the years to be able to serve here and hopefully we've done a job here that's benefited our children in the community,” Superintendent Johnson said.
Johnson told the school board he is retiring.
The board is beginning the process to search for a new superintendent.
