Longtime U.S. Representative from Southwest Virginia dies

A long time U.S. Representative from Southwest Virginia has died.

The Richmond Times Dispatch reports former Congressman William Wampler Senior died Wednesday night at his Bristol home following a long illness.

Wampler, who was from Pennington Gap in Lee County, served as representative for two years in the 1950's and an additional 16 from the 1960's through the 1980's.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

William Wampler was 86 years old.
