Longtime journalist dies

A long-time newspaper and television journalist and former spokesman for the coal industry has died.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports that Tom Duncan died Tuesday night in Lexington.

The Webster County native began his journalism career in 1947 and worked for the Lexington Herald Leader, the Associated Press and the Courier Journal before joining WAVE-TV in Louisville.

He later served as president of the Kentucky Coal Association from 1974 to 1990.

Tom Duncan was 83.
