MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Federal inspectors issued 374 citations
and orders during September's special impact inspections at 18 coal
mines and two metal and nonmetal mines.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration began impact
inspections last year after Massey Energy's Upper Big Branch mine
exploded in southern West Virginia, killing 29 men. They target
mines MSHA believes need further attention.
On the list were five mines owned by Virginia-based Alpha
Natural Resources, including the Aracoma mine in Logan County where a 2006 fire killed two men.
Inspectors also targeted D&C Mining Corp. in Harlan County, Ky.,
seizing phones upon arrival.
That inspection resulted in 19 orders and citations, 16 of which
were for significant and substantial violations.
