On Saturday, Kentucky State Police dispatch received a call from Magoffin County that a woman was laying unresponsive in her home on Bee Tree Branch in Royalton.

"Troopers were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival troopers located Karen Pitts deceased in her residence," said KSP Trooper Shaun Little.

Pitts' sister lives next door. She says she was the one who found the 44-year-old.

Police say Pitts was already dead when they arrived.

"Once troopers arrived, exactly where he had given directions where she was in the residence she was still in the same place. She was deceased," said Little.

Deputy Coroner Brian Parker pronounced Pitts dead at the scene.

It is unclear if Pitts had any injuries that may have contributed to her death. Police say until an autopsy is completed, they cannot release much information.

"Once that information is passed along to me from Det. Phillips, that will be something that'll probably be released after it's concluded," said Little.

Pitts' body was taken to Frankfort where an autopsy will be completed Tuesday.

KSP Detectives Chris Phillips and Jason Merlo are investigating.
