CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT)- It was a shocking find Wednesday for farmer Raymond McQueen.

“She was laying there like she is now, but when I first got here, I really didn’t know what to think,” McQueen said.

One of his seven month old calves was slaughtered and left dead.

“There was some blood around her head where they had cut her throat,” McQueen added.

It’s a crime Clay County Sheriff Kevin Johnson hasn’t seen much of in his 26 years on the job.

“This is the second time that I’ve had cattle being killed, so it’s not common at all,” Johnson said.

“Where the cow had actually been killed at, we backtracked [footsteps] through the snow, back to their house,” Johnson added.

That’s right, footprints in the snow to the home right next door to McQueen’s. He says this type of crime is a real blow to his business.

“Someone just come up here and kill one of your big calves that weighs 550-600 lbs. worth $900-950, you know it’s a big loss,” McQueen said.
