Man charged with Hazard robbery talks from jail

HAZARD, Ky (WYMT) - Police are continuing to investigate an armed robbery at the Apple Market in downtown Hazard.

Wednesday morning around 4:30, police say a man showed the clerk a gun and demanded money.

Police have arrested and charged Ritchie Slone with the crime.

He told us from jail he was at the gas station at 1:00 that morning to get some cigarettes, but he does not remember what happened after that.

He says he remembers being at his house which he says is about one mile from the Apple Market.

He told us he smoked four joints from about 1:00 to 4:00 that morning, then he said he went to Knott County.

"Do you think there is a possibility that you could have done it?" asked WYMT reporter Katie Roach.

"To be honest with you I don't know. I could have been walking in my sleep with the injuries and everything. Fall asleep, get high on a little herb, just roll out the door you know be half asleep, and I might as well go to the bathroom, and out the door I went. Maybe," said Slone.

Slone says he wants to know where the money is. Police still have not recovered it or the gun.
