WISE COUNTY, Va. (WYMT/AP) - He killed fellow inmates in two different Southwest Virginia prisons.

Now, the man who threatened to keep killing people unless he was executed is dead.

Officials in Virginia say 42 year old Robert Gleason Junior died Wednesday night in the electric chair.

Gleason was serving life in prison for a 2007 murder when he killed his cellmate at Wallens Ridge State Prison in Big Stone Gap in 2009.

Police say he strangled another inmate at nearby Red Onion maximum security prison in Pound in 2010.

Gleason was the first person executed in the U.S. this year and the first to choose to die by electrocution since 2010.
