Police are searching for a man who escaped custody while being taken to court.
According to the Estill County Deputy Jailer, Bill Miller, Daniel Patterson had just arrived to the facility behind the courthouse from Clark County when he made his move.
"We chased him down Broadway," Miller explained. "He actually tried to get into a couple of vehicles at that time. Then, he hung onto one of the vehicles--the lady inside was trying to fight him off."
Miller says he rode on the hood of that car over a brifge and then disappeared into the woods. Patterson was last seen wearing a t-shirt, jeans and no shoes.
"Just talking to the Sheriff's Deppartment an police... He's probably trying to lay low Neil dark and try and get out of the county," Miller said.
That's what Patterson's estranged wife, Candace, fears the most.
"My first thought he was going to to go straight to the house," Candace Patterson said. She came out of hiding to talk to us.
She says she found out about her husband's jail break while standing in an Estill County courtroom, waiting to finalize a domestic violence order against him.
"It's pure horror, " she said, tears brimming in her eyes. "Pure horror. Who knows what he's going to do? Or where he's going to go?"
Candace Patterson says her husband has terrorized her and her two sons and is nothing like the man she married a year ago.
"That's what drugs will do."
She says it should not have taken seven court hearings to get the DVO against him.
33-year-old Daniel Patterson is also charged with robbing the Cash Express in Irvine back In June. Police say he used a large metal pipe in the robbery.
Jail officials do consider him dangerous and think he may head to Barbourville, where he's from.
