BREATHITT COUNTY Ky. (WYMT) - The Breathitt County Coroner says 46-year-old Tommy Lee Smith is the victim of a homicide.
Smith was found dead Saturday morning in his trailer near Buckhorn. Officials confirm he was killed from a gunshot wound. Now, family and friends want to know why Smith was killed and who is responsible.
On Saturday morning at about 10:30, Geraldine Turner says her boyfriend found their friend Tommy Lee Smith slumped over in a chair in his trailer, and ran to go get her so she perform CPR.
"I rested his head up and I saw the big hole in his forehead," said Turner.
When officials arrived on the scene, they say the murder weapon was nowhere to be found.
People close to Tommy Lee Smith say they have no idea who would have killed him.
"All I know is heartless. It's so heartless that somebody could do anybody the way he was done. Whoever it is, I hope they realize what it feels like to walk in and find your family or your friend done that way," said Pamela Johnson, a family friend.
Family friends say Tommy Lee Smith loved Cornhole and four-wheeling. They also say he was always willing to help people in need.
"He's everybody's friend. I don't care who they are, what they've done to him in the past. Always a friend," Johnson said.
Officials say there are no suspects at this time. His body has been taken to Frankfort for an autopsy.
Kentucky State Police are heading up the investigation.
