LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) - An accident at an automotive parts factory Friday in Laurel County left one man with an injured leg.
It happened around 11 a.m. Friday at Aisin Automotive Casting in London.
The man's name was not released.
Markus Perkins, a paramedic who treated the victim on the scene, said his leg was badly mangled.
"We gauged multiple fractures to the right leg," Perkins said. "And possibly one that even the bone came through the skin and went back in again."
After giving the man painkillers, paramedics moved him to a helicopter and he was flown to the University of Kentucky Trauma Center in Lexington.
"It was very hard to deal with due to the fact that there were so many fractures," Perkins said. "We have a splint that does this, we have a splint that does that, but this was one of those fractures where you have to think of a way to mobilize the leg without endangering the leg or the person."
Perkins said the man's leg appeared to have been crushed by a rolled piece of steel.
"There was a noted amount of blood on the ground," Perkins said.
Aisin is an automotive parts producer that supplies parts to Toyota and General Motors, among others.
Company officials declined to comment on the incident.
