Man accused of setting car bomb on wife indicted by grand jury

A grand jury has indicted Thomas Biederman on charges of attempted murder and use of a weapon of mass destruction.

A Boyd County grand jury issued the indictment on Monday.

ATF agents and the Ashland Police arrested Biederman, 51, of Russell, last Thursday.

The indictment is in connection with an explosion inside an Ashland parking garage on July 28, 2011.

The blast happened after Biederman's wife, Janie, got into her car, and tapped the brakes. Mrs. Biederman suffered some cuts and bruises but was not severely hurt.

Investigators say they found a PVC pipe, a detonation cap, wires and the smell of burning gun powder at the scene. She suffered only minor injuries.

Commonwealth Attorney David Justice says Biederman's bail has been upped to $150,000.

He is expected to arraigned on the charges Friday. He remains in the Boyd County Detention Center.
