Man appears in court on attempted murder charges

A Whitley County man facing charges after police say he tried to kill two other people with a machete was in court Monday.

40 year old James Fields says it was just an accident and he didn't mean to hurt his brother or his brother's girlfriend.

Sheriff Colan Harrell disagrees and says the attack was enough to merit an attempted murder charge.

Fields is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center with no bond.

A preliminary hearing for fields is set to continue Wednesday.
