Man arrested after shooting inside Pikeville Lowe's

PIKEVILLE - A man is behind bars after a shooting at Lowe's in Pikeville this morning, no one was injured.

Police say Barry Cates Jr., 51, of Ivel, an employee of Lowe's for more than nine years, walked into the business around 6:30 a.m., Thursday, armed with a .22 caliber handgun.

Det. Phillip Reed, of the Pikeville Police Department says Cates admitted he intended on shooting another employee and to then shoot him self.

Cates told police he and the other employee had several altercations prior to today's events.

He is charged with one count of first-degree wanton endangerment and carrying a hand gun by a convicted felon.

Cates is being held at the Pike County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
