A man from Ceredo has been arrested and charged in the death of Candy Mallory.
West Virginia State Police arrested 40-year-old Jackie Dale Hewlett Tuesday morning.
Hewlett is charged with negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident causing death or injury.
DNA collected from a piece of the car that was impounded confirmed that the it was in fact the car that hit and killed Candy Mallory.
Mallory, 38, of Ceredo, was killed while along walking along U.S. Route 60, just east of Ceredo, about 2:30 a.m. on July 10.
Her body was found several hours later. West Virginia State Police say she was hit so hard her body was thrown 30 to 40 feet over an embankment.
Four days later, a suspect's car was found and impounded by West Virginia State Police.
Evidence collected from the vehicle indicates that Hewlett hit Mallory.
Wayne County Prosecutor Tom Plymale tells our sister station WSAZ that the family is feeling relieved that an arrest has been made in connection with Mallory's death.
Hewlett has been booked into the Western Regional Jail.
