Man escaped from Letcher County jail

Officials say a man escaped from the Letcher County Jail Saturday night.

According to the Letcher County jailer, Byron Bentley escaped around 5:30 p.m. after an elevator malfunctioned.

The jailer says Bentley then went out through the courtroom on the district court floor of the courthouse.

He is described as 6’2” tall, 190 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Jail officials say they are looking leads within Letcher County as to where he might be.
