A Floyd County man is now charged with two counts of murder after a deadly accident earlier this year.

State police say on June 1st, 33 year old James Slone of Melvin caused a crash that killed his passenger, 43 year old Karen Mitchell of Hi Hat, and the other driver, 36 year old Jeffery Hamilton of McDowell.

State police say Slone was driving on Route 122 in Printer when he crossed the center line and hit Hamilton's pick-up truck head on.
Investigators say Slone was under the influence at the time of the crash. "The DUI was a contributing factor in the collision itself," said Trooper Shaun Little.

Mitchell and Hamilton both died at the scene.

Four others in the two cars were airlifted to Holston Valley Hospital in Tennessee.

Now after a four month investigation, Slone is charged with two counts of murder, four counts of assault, and DUI. "Based on information obtained at the scene and once it was presented to the grand jury, the grand jury returned the indictment for those charges," said Trooper Little.

State police arrested Slone on Tuesday morning.

He is being held in the Floyd County Detention Center.

Court dates are not set yet.
