Man recovering after plane crash in Powell County

A pilot is lucky to be alive after crashing his plane at a Kentucky airport.

Police say winds caused a man to lose control of his ultralight shortly after taking off from at the Stanton Airport on Sunday.

The wind pushed the plane off to the left of the airfield.

It landed in the grass on it's side.

Police say the man was able to call 911 himself and was even joking with paramedics as they worked to treat him.

The pilot was airlifted to UK Hospital.

No word on his condition.
