CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Sen. Joe Manchin's gift to a fellow
senator is the talk of the U.S. Capitol.
Manchin gave New York Sen. Chuck Schumer a donkey and an
elephant handcrafted from West Virginia-mined coal during their
holiday gift exchange Monday.
Sixty-one senators participated in the gift exchange, including
Colorado Sen. Mark Udall, who gave Manchin three lumps of Colorado
coal in a pair of hiking socks along with some Colorado-brewed
"Snow Day" beer.
Sen. Jay Rockefeller also played up the coal theme, giving Sen.
John Kerry a bag of `Coal Candy,' which are flavored pieces of
candy that are darkened to resemble coal pieces.
The Charleston Daily Mail reports (http://bit.ly/tETP5d) that
Indiana Sen. Dick Lugar was Rockefeller's Secret Santa and gave him
a stocking full of chocolate candies made in Indianapolis.
