Severe weather looks likely later this afternoon. The best chances appear to be between 3 p.m. and Midnight. Damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain, and an isolated tornado or two are possible. The area at the greatest risk for severe weather in eastern Kentucky is in the Cumberland Valley, near the I-75 corridor. Keep it locked here for updates.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - One of Kentucky's Medicaid managed care groups has announced it will begin laying off workers next month to prepare for shutting down.
Kentucky Spirit Health Plan, a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Centene Corp., announced last fall that would exercise a contractual right to end its contract with the state effective July 5.
The organization notified state and local government officials and its 145 employees of the impending layoffs on Monday.
The organization said the first round of layoffs will be July 5 with subsequent layoffs within six months.
Kentucky Spirit said in a statement that it is committed to helping the 140,000 clients it serves transition to other providers. Kentucky has three other Medicaid contractors.
