CINCINNATI, Oh. (WYMT) - The man behind Kentucky's worst school shooting has lost his bid to withdraw a guilty plea, after a federal appeals court concluded he could have acted sooner to seek a new trial.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in CIncinnati ruled that 29 year old Michael Carneal was found competent to stand trial as early as 2004 and could have challenged the plea then.
Carneal was just 14 when he opened fire on a prayer group at Heath High School in Paducah in 1997.
Three students died, five others were injured.
