BELL COUNTY Ky. (WYMT) - A Middlesboro man is going to prison after admitting to killing his own son.

Police say in April of 2010, Richard Goodman shot his son, Richie Joe Goodman. Friday morning, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Leigh Ann Goodman lost her oldest son more than two years ago. She says her own husband, her son's father, killed him.

"No one knows how tough it's been," said Leigh Ann Goodman.

Police say in April of 2010 on the front porch of their home in Middlesboro, Richard Goodman, Sr. shot and killed his son Richard Goodman, Jr. known as Richie Joe.
Goodman left the scene and was arrested in Harrogate, Tennessee.

Earlier this month, he pleaded guilty to murder and on Friday was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Leigh Ann Goodman and her other two children are pleased with the prison time.

"The time is never enough when you can't bring the other person back," said Brittany Gilbert, Goodman's daughter.

"I'm glad it's over. It was a long time coming," Leigh Ann Goodman said.

Leigh Ann Goodman says an argument between her husband and son led to the shooting, but says the fight was nothing worth tearing apart the family.

The Goodman family says they are still mourning losing Richie Joe.

Leigh Ann Goodman says she has not talked to her husband in two years.

Commonwealth's Attorney Karen Greene Blondell says as part of the plea deal, Richard Goodman has to serve 85 percent of the sentence before he is eligible for parole.
