Local businesses are already gearing up for Black Friday, one week in advance.

'Tis the season for stocking shelves, making a list, and checking it twice.

"We got behind. We had some problems with stuff so we're getting caught up," said Belk Assistant Manager, Joy Beaupry.

Folks at the Middlesboro Mall are already counting down to Black Friday.

"I believe the attitude is a little bit better. I believe we are all expecting for it to be better than last year," said Middlesboro Mall Manager Charles Burchfield.

"Our business is picking up. It had gotten a little slow in the last week or two, but it's picking up, and we're really looking forward to a good Black Friday," said Beaupry.

The economic slump has managers hoping for a strong shopping season.

Mall leaders say folks should consider their Black Friday options.

"You are able to get here quicker. You're able to stay here longer when you're finished up. You don't have quite as long of a drive. The good thing about it, we have JC Penney, we have Sears, we have Belk, and now we have Roses," said Burchfield.

"We want to support our local people and keep the money here in Bell County and here in Middlesboro," said Beaupry.

Managers say it's possible to shop close to home, while also saving money.

Two stores at the Middlesboro Mall, Sears and Roses, will be open part of Thanksgiving day.
