Mingo County man convicted in murder case

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (WYMT/WSAZ) - A man has been found guilty of killing his girlfriend, who was also his third cousin.

A jury in Mingo County found Donald Medley, 45, guilty on first degree murder and concealment of a deceased being for killing 55-year-old Evelyn Farnum.

The jury deliberated for about four hours before reaching a verdict Wednesday afternoon.

Farnum went missing on December 30, 2012. Her body was found a week later in her SUV in Laurel Lake.

Donald had reported Farnum missing, then admitted to killing her.

Donald's brother Gregory, 46, is also charged in the case. Investigators say after Donald killed Farnum, he called his brother and the two men pushed the SUV into the lake.

Gregory will go on trial later this year for concealment of a deceased human being and conspiracy.

A jury recommended a life sentence with mercy for Donald, meaning he will be eligible for parole.
