Mingo County man killed in officer-involved shooting

MINGO COUNTY, W.Va.- A man died following an officer-involved shooting in the Dingess area of Mingo County, W.Va.

West Virginia State Police said they were investigating a single vehicle crash Sunday night. Randy Matheny, 31, who was involved in the crash, fired a shot before police arrived. Troopers said he then fled the scene with a baby.

Matheny's wife was taken to the hospital while troopers searched for Matheny and the baby.

They found him at his home in the East Fork 12 Pole Creek area.

Troopers said when they approached Matheny he pointed his gun at them. They then shot and killed him.

The baby was reportedly not injured.
