LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT) - Miss Kentucky, Pikeville's own, Jessica Casebolt's biggest supporters gathered in Lexington Friday night to send her off to Las Vegas to compete for the Miss America crown.
Longtime friend of the Casebolt family Cathy Derry says, "I don't think the Miss Kentucky Organization realized what they got when they got Jessica Casebolt she is just as beautiful on the inside as the outside."
Jessica says without these supporters and her community she would not be where she is now, "People from Eastern Kentucky, Pikeville, Pike Co. have just really truly rallied behind me to make this experience the best it could possible be."
A former Miss America from Kentucky, Heather French Henry, has gotten to know Jessica through the years and she says, "I would love to be able to call Jessica my miss America little sister."
Even though Jessica will be more than 2,000 miles from home, her supporters plan on following her. Derry says, "there is a large contingency we call ourselves the Pikeville Pageant Posse that are going to Vegas to root her on and we can't wait to bring the Miss America crown to Pikeville."
Through it all Jessica has always remembered where her roots are. Heather French Henry explains, "Jessica has always been extremely proud to say she's from Pikeville and I've impressed upon her that if she she goes on to be Miss America she needs to maintain that...there was a special lady who called me right after I won and told me that and that was Rosemary Clooney, she said never forget where you've come from."
Jessica says, "I'm very proud to be from Kentucky and I'm very proud to be from Pikeville."
Jessica thanks the people of Eastern Kentucky for supporting her
through and is asking for you to vote for her as 'People's Choice'. To vote go to www.jessicacasebolt.com
