WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (AP/WYMT) - The Associated Press has named republican Congressman Morgan Griffith the winner in his race against democrat Anthony Flaccavento. The Griffith team is not disputing that. The Flaccavento team says it is still too early. The challenger is not ready to admit defeat.
Two years after pulling off one of, if not the biggest election upset in Southwest Virginia history, incumbent Republican Congressman Morgan Griffith hopes he can retain his seat as U.S. Representative for Virginia's 9th Congressional District.
In 2010, Griffith beat 28-year veteran Congressman Rick Boucher, a Democrat who held the seat since Ronald Reagan was president. Before his historic election win, Griffith, previously a longtime member of the Virginia House of Delegates and House Majority Leader, was also a private attorney.
