Mother forgives son after assault

HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - A Harlan County man is behind bars for assaulting his own mother.

Tina Britt says it all started as an argument on Friday, but she is now left with a broken arm.

“An argument ensued over who had possession of what and who was going to live where,” said Harlan Police Chief, Mike Thomas.

The argument with her son, 20 year old Chris Ashton Britt, was over a stereo, which he then used against her.

“He turned around and slung the stereo and it hit me in the back of the head,” said Britt.

She was sent to the Harlan ARH for trauma to the head and a broken arm.

Police say they later found her son hiding on the roof.

Police believe Ashton had to climb outside of a window in the apartment complex in order to get to the roof.

Yet, Britt says her son has already apologized.

“He's calling me now, I love you mommy. He's crying, you know, are you hurt are you ok. Did I hurt you, its like he's gone from one to another. He's bipolar,” said Britt.

She says his emotional problems caused the attack and she forgives him.

“I love my son very much and I'm going to back him all the way,” said Britt.

Ashton is in the Harlan County Detention Center for assault charges and evading police.

Britt says she is planning on dropping the charges against her son.
