New jobs are coming to Harlan County after a national company announces it is expanding.
Heartland School Solutions Directors say business has grown 300 percent!
They moved to a new location in Harlan and are adding employees.
Several months ago, Kelly Haight was looking for a job.
"It's very tough, especially with the economy right now," said Haight.
At the same time, business started booming at Heartland School Solutions in Harlan.
"The team here allowed us to grow our business significantly and yes, we've grown by about 300 percent in the past two years. A lot of it thanks to what is going on here," said Keith Womack, Director of Heartland School Payment Solutions.
The national technology based company provides online pay systems for school lunches in public and private schools across the country.
As business grows, so does the center in Harlan. They opened a new office and are creating dozens of new jobs. One of the jobs went to Haight.
"I was looking for a career job and just got fortunate and this opened up so I was really happy to get this job," she said.
Officials say the company's growth makes a difference in Harlan County. Each new job's paycheck means more money to spend at other businesses which could lead to more tax dollars.
"It's a really good move for us. We're continuing to invest in the community here," said Terry Roberts, Director of Heartland School Solutions.
Officials made the office in Harlan with room to grow. They plan to expand business more in the next few years.
"The business is incredible. The people in Harlan have been productive and incredibly genuine in dealing with customers and providing our customer support," Womack said.
They say they will add more jobs in the future.
The new office is located on Industrial Park Road.
