National conference on standards to be held in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A national conference is scheduled to be
held in Louisville to help educators implement more rigorous
benchmarks for schoolchildren.

The conference on common core academic standards is scheduled for Feb. 27 through 29 in Louisville.

Kentucky's Council on Postsecondary Education says in a
statement that it will co-host the conference with a group called
the College Readiness Partnership.

College- and career-readiness have become the new buzzwords in public education, replacing subject proficiency as goals for public
school students.

In February 2010, Kentucky became the first state in the nation
to adopt the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English language arts and mathematics.
