New Daniel Boone statue in Barbourville

A new Daniel Boone statue was unveiled Friday morning in Barbourville.

The life-sized bronze statue of Daniel Boone sits in front of the Knox County Courthouse.

The Daniel Boone Festival Committee helped organize the event.

The history re-enactors say they wanted to honor one of Kentucky's greatest pioneers.

"Nowadays, being a history fanatic and a history buff, a lot of communities are forgetting their history and their heritage and to see a community like Barbourville that's actually embracing that heritage, that's important and it was important to us," said Ken Hill.

Before they unveiled the statue, the group held a historical re-enactment celebration.
