New EKU president announces budget cuts

RICHMOND, Ky (WYMT) - The day before the First Lady's historic visit, the incoming president of Eastern Kentucky University announced the first of a number of cuts to the university's budget.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the university's strategic budget reallocation task force is looking at ways to trim 23 million dollars from the school's budget.

Incoming President Michael Benson said the proposed cuts call for tuition increases, as well as, the elimination of a number of university positions.

The EKU Board of Regents will decide on the proposals at their June meetings.
