New health program at Prestonsburg High School receives donation

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - A Floyd County doctor made a genrous donation to a new program at Prestonsburg High School.

Dr. Chandra Varia is giving $25,000 over the next five years to the Allied Health Program.

The program allows students to learn about careers in the medical field.

The donation will provide the program with necessary materials.

Principal Jerry Butcher says, "Students that take this course take three classes and pass the state test and become certified. They then go on and do not have to take two classes at Big Sandy."

More than 100 students enrolled in the program this year.
