New volunteer housing opens for Christian Appalachian Project

Posted: Tue 10:05 AM, Feb 12, 2013

MARTIN, Ky. (WYMT) - The Christian Appalachian Project opened a new volunteer housing facility in Floyd County.

The Louis T. Foley Mission Center in Martin is an 18,000 square foot building that can house up to 120 volunteers who help with building projects and disaster relief.

Officials say the center can also be used as a disaster shelter, and it has performance and presentation space that they hope to use to help showcase local culture.

"With these numbers we'll be able to handle like I say 120 can sleep here at a time, and that's just going to make us able to make such a huge impact on the area with the help that that will bring," said Bryan Byrd with CAP.

Construction began on the center in September of 2011.
