New water line could help Bledsoe water issues

Updated: Tue 10:07 PM, Jul 31, 2012

The water issues are continuing for those in the Bledsoe and Big Laurel Communities in Harlan County.

Last week many went for days without water, something that those who live in the community say is not uncommon.

But officials in the county and at Black Mountain Utility District are working on some solutions.

Utility crews are digging their way across the mountain making way for a water line that will hopefully provide a constant water source for those in the Bledsoe Community.

"It's been really frustrating, of course my husband works outside, and it's been really hot. And last week my husband had to go and haul our water to bath in," said Renee Saylor who has lived in Bledsoe fore 20 years.

"We pay our bill monthly, but we still are not getting our water. Our bill is still high, and we aren't getting our water," Saylor added.

But a new water line from Harlan could change that. Officials say right now the water supply coming from Pineville is not enough to ensure people in this community have this precious necessity.

The project should be finished in about seven weeks, but in the meantime the problems in the Bledsoe Community will still persist.

"If people can have little bit more patience, I know its running thin. If they can, at least by October 1, there will at least be plenty of water," said Harlan County Judge Executive Joe Grieshop.

But Renee Saylor is not so sure this project will end all the problems.

Black Mountain Utilities officials say this is their main priority, and that he understands their frustrations, but he is asking for patience while they continue to find leaks and fix the problem.
