A new company is coming to Pikeville, bringing several new jobs to the area.
Tri-State Laboratories is moving in. It is an environmental company that will work on things like testing water for mining companies in the area.
"It's more of a local company that will be serving the tri-state area on lab issues that we service right now," said Summit Engineering spokesperson Lisa Daniels.
Summit Engineering has been working with county officials to get the lab here.
"Part of our county comprehensive plan brings jobs around our energy and build around energy," said Pike County Judge/Executive Wayne T. Rutherford.
Officials say they are most excited about the new jobs it will bring to Pike County.
"What an opportunity at a time in this state and the country when they're in a recession," said Rutherford.
"With unemployment rates growing we love to have the opportunity here for a new place for people to work," said Daniels.
The company will open with about 12-14 jobs initially, including things like chemists and field technicians, but they hope to double that number within two years.
"With help from the Pike County officials and the city officials of Pikeville this has all come together fairly quickly and easily," said Daniels.
They say it is something that has been in the works for several months, and they are happy to see it happen.
