New memorial being unveiled at Fort Knox

FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) - Fort Knox will unveil a memorial Friday honoring 118 soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11.

The memorial will honor soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. It's modeled after a memorial at Fort Hood.

Individual names of the brigade's soldiers who died in Iraq or Afghanistan will be engraved on six separate markers, one for each battalion.

The brigade recently returned to Fort Knox after spending all of 2011 in eastern Afghanistan. It was the soldiers' second combat deployment to Afghanistan since 2008 and third as a brigade since 2001. The brigade lost 27 soldiers in 2011.
