New school could be built in Perry County

A new school in Perry County could be under construction by early next year.

Talk about a new Dennis Wooton Elementary school began back in 2005 and now school officials are getting the paperwork finalized to present to Kentucky's Board of Education on December 7th.

If they approve, the superintendent says they will close on December 8th.

“We are farther into the process now than we ever have been and since 2005 we have added more funding to go along with the initial 5.7 million,” Perry County Schools’ Superintendent John Paul Amis said.

The site for the new school is on Highway 80 just past Wal-Mart.

The new school will be a kindergarten through eighth grade school instead of K-6 like the current Dennis Wooton Elementary.
