NEWPORT, Ky. (AP) - Campbell County will make emergency protection orders sought by police and issued by judges available electronically this year.
Campbell County District Court Judge Karen A. Thomas told The Kentucky Enquirer the hope is to go live with electronic EPOs by April once police officers are trained on how to use their in-car computers to use the software.
Campbell County Fiscal Court authorized paying the $10,000 cost for the new software in December.
Federal funds paid for pilot programs in Jefferson and Christian counties last year, but there was no money from the state available to include Campbell County.
Administrative Office of the Courts offered to match the money for the program if local money offered.
Jefferson County received a $170,000 federal grant to implement its system.
