Nursing home operator leaving Kentucky

Officials with a nursing home chain with several Eastern Kentucky locations say they will no longer operate in the bluegrass.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports ExtendiCare Health Services has entered into an agreement to lease all 21 of its skilled nursing centers to an unidentified long term care operator based in Texas.

Officials with the company say increased litigation and failure of the general assembly to pass legislation to make it more difficult to file lawsuits against nursing homes are their reason for leaving.

ExtendiCare currently owns facilities in Somerset, Salyersville and Stanton.
