LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) - Police in Laurel County say the deadly shooting of a sheriff, who took a stance against drugs, hits home.

The sheriff in Laurel County has made a similar platform of fighting illegal drug use.

Police in Laurel County say the shooting should cause all law officers to be more vigilant.

“We train our guys to be situationally aware. Maintain a high level of that. So even if we are at a traffic light, or waiting on traffic, stopped in a drive through, really your head should always be on a swivel,” Laurel County Sheriff’s Department Captain Rodney Van Zant said.

Police say numbers, convictions, and word on the street tell them they are making a difference in the drug problem in Laurel County.
