Police say two people were nearly beaten to death in a Floyd County parking lot.
Investigators say 23-year-old Johnni Watts and 30-year-old Mark Horne were attacked in the Village parking lot in Lancer.
Now police are searching for suspects.
Prestonsburg police say early Wednesday morning they found blood all over the Jenny Wiley Liquor store parking lot and a man and woman on the ground with severe injuries.
“The beating, it was really one of the worst ones I've seen in a long time,” Prestonsburg Police Assistant Chief Bryan Hall said.
Police say one victim claimed someone attacked them with a baseball bat.
“The male appeared to be struck several times, you know, in the head and all over, I mean, he was beat pretty good, beat nearly to death,” Hall said.
Officials say both victims, 30 year old Mark Horne and 22 year old Johnni Watts, are in critical condition in a West Virginia hospital. Detectives are now trying to figure out who is responsible.
“I don't know everything that happened and it's just going to get a little bit of time to gather the information,” Detective Steve Little said.
Police are not releasing any details about possible suspects but say they are questioning people.
“We have witness statements and we're reviewing the witness statements and going from there,” Detective Steve Little said.
Police are also looking for the motive for the attack.
Police hope to get answers soon and say it is possible Horne and Watts knew the attackers.
