Officials: No earthquake near Corbin

CORBIN, Ky. (WYMT) - It is the talk of the town in Corbin. The ground started shaking around the area.

We received phone calls, facebook messages, and e-mails about the ground shaking in parts of southern and eastern Kentucky.

Officials with the University of Kentucky Geological Survey said they didn’t see anything unusual.

They say they have recorded seismic activity at stations across the state, but the readings are nothing out of the ordinary.

“Because people were calling and interested in knowing about it, I looked through our records and so far I have not seen anything that does not look un-characteristic. There is a lot of activity but it's normal,” Dr. Zhenming Wang said.

Survey officials tell us most of the recorded data is mine blasting. They say that is common in the region.
