Officials concerned after string of fires

FERGUSON, Ky. (WYMT) - A home on Smith Dr. near Somerset used to be an A-Frame log cabin. Now it’s reduced to rubble.

“This was a beautiful home,” said Ferguson Fire Captain James Kriege, describing the home near Lake Cumberland in southern Pulaski County.

Now it’s the subject of an investigation. And it’s not alone.

“Everyone is scared to death,” said Kriege.

That’s because police say the source of the fire that destroyed it..and at least 8 others is suspicious.

“This has been going on for about a year. Off and on,” said Kriege.

Taking a drive along a section of Sierra Drive and you'll see lots of empty lots. That’s because people say all of them have been destroyed by fire.

None of the homes had electricity hooked to them and all of them were vacant.

“Our fear is that… they are going to move from that to maybe someone living in a residence. We are hoping that doesn’t happen,” said Kriege.

A home on Samara drive has burned twice in two months. The second time it was destroyed.

“Everybody needs to keep their eyes open. And if they see anything suspicious, contact the Sheriff’s dept.(606-678-5145) or the Somerset fire investigation team (606-679-1193),” said Kriege.

They can also call a number easy to remember..1-800-27-ARSON, where information can be left anonymously and callers could receive up to a $1,000 reward.
